Internships and research opportunities can provide invaluable experience and help further career goals. Derner offers two formal intership programs:

• working with children with special needs in a special education setting
• working as a peer counselor on the crisis hotline and in the walk-in Peer Counseling Center.

Internships in other areas, such as industrial psychology, are available by individual application.

Psychology majors may be required to participate in supervised field work to meet the degree requirements. Placements have included:

• Long Island Jewish/Hillside Medical Center
• Nassau County Correctional Center
• South Oaks Hospital.
