Psychology focuses on the nature of individuals and their roles within groups. The undergraduate division of the prestigious Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies provides students with a firm foundation in the core principles, applied practices, and research methodology. Students have access to the Institute's extensive resources and research opportunities and to a faculty whose expertise spans all the disciplines of psychology.
Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in psychology follow a curriculum of required courses that first introduce them to general psychology and the primary disciplines. As their studies progress, they can take advantage of opportunities for laboratory work, clinical field work, and internships. Senior level seminars are offered in all the disciplines.
The undergraduate division also offers a minor in psychology.
All students are encouraged to join the Psychology Club and participate in We Care activities on campus.
Understanding the relevance of psychology to an individual, as well as to society, provides students with many career options. Students may seek advanced degrees in psychology leading to a career in:
- clinical psychology/psychotherapy in clinics, hospitals, and private practice
- school psychology
- industrial-organizational psychology
- criminal and forensic psychology
- social psychology
- marketing and advertising research
- advertising (using subliminal perception).
