The graduate student assistantships are a unique way to provide financial assistance and gain experience within the program in a variety of settings. There are several different positions available throughout the program including departmental assistants, research assistants, and testing assistants who work with both students and faculty.
The position involves collecting data for a research project, participate in organizing and processing data, being involved in literature searches, as well as assisting professors with tasks related to teaching of classes. For research TA positions, prior experience with research will be the defining criterion.
As a second year student, the position involves correcting protocols, being available for test tutoring on one afternoon per week, re-organizing test kits at the end of the semester and again before the new semester starts. This position also involves providing one-on-one tutoring to first year students in the assessment course. As a third year student, the position involves coordinating second year TAs, making sure assignments are filed properly, comprehensive exams are run smoothly, and that a TA is always available in the testing room during office hours.
The position involves helping faculty with clerical work, conducting library searches, helping faculty organize assignments, filing, keeping practicum and internship logs, organizing and compiling admissions, preparing orientation meetings, and facilitating with conference registrations and open houses. As well as completing data entry on computers and working with computer software such as Word, Excel, SPSS, Moodle, Access.
