Postgraduate Programs Psychodynamic School Psychology

The Program in Psychodynamic School Psychology is a unique one-year program for certified school psychologists. This program includes courses, seminars, and supervision based on contemporary psychodynamic understanding of human behavior. Emphasis is placed upon training school psychologists to apply this information as they expand their skills in working with students, parents, teachers, and school administrators.

The psychodynamic approach of the program is well-suited to the work of the school psychologist. Psychodynamic understanding of human behavior helps us to recognize that a child’s functioning in school is influenced by a variety of emotional, cognitive, neuro-developmental, familial, and societal factors. The practice of psychoanalytically informed school psychology involves using this knowledge to counsel students, formulate recommendations, offer advice, and make decisions that are designed to be concrete, practical, relevant, and uncomplicated.

We enable school psychologists to expand their scope of expertise, stimulate their professional lives, and enhance personal satisfaction. Credits earned in this program may qualify toward salary increments. Courses meet on Wednesday evenings.

An optional second year of courses and supervision is offered to graduates of the first year of the program.
