Director of the School Psychology program of Adelphi University and also, the Director of the Social Training Center (STC) at Adelphi University.

Ionas Sapountzis, Ph.D., is the Director of the School Psychology program of Adelphi University and also, the Director of the Social Training Center (STC). STC is a University-based out-patient clinic that offers group and individual counseling and support services to 15-to-25-year-old individuals with Asperger Syndrome, and their families.  It aims to provide youngsters in the spectrum with a forum to explore ideas and share experiences in a supportive and facilitating environment, and to receive feedback from peers and group counselors. Each group is led by a certified school psychologist and an advanced student in the school psychology program.

Ionas Sapountzis received his doctoral degree from NYU in 1990 and holds postdoctoral certificates in clinical and school psychology and in child and adolescent psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  He worked as a behavior specialist at the YAI and the HG Birch School for Exceptional Children from 1987-1993, and has been trained in TEACCH, ABA and psychodynamic approaches in working with children in the autism spectrum and with children with emotional and behavioral difficulties.  Ionas Sapountzis was the director of the School Psychology program of Long Island University, for many years and joined the faculty of Adelphi University in 2008.  He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and has several publications on child, adolescent and adult psychotherapy.
