Derner School Receives Fourth in World Ranking

News, From My Desk

Adelphi University’s Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology (formerly Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies) has been ranked fourth worldwide for psychology–psychoanalysis by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). More than 26,000 degree-granting institutions were included in the annual ranking.

CWUR rates top science and social science universities around the world in consideration of research articles published in top-tier journals. Adelphi’s fourth-place ranking is a landmark achievement for a small school, with only Columbia University, New York University and Harvard University ranking higher on the list. Adelphi also placed 227th among global institutions, with the most top-10 rankings.

“The entire Gordon F. Derner Institute and I are deeply honored to receive this global recognition for our scholarship,” said Derner Dean Jacques P. Barber, Ph.D. “Being ranked fourth in the world is an exceptional distinction.”

Since 2012, CWUR has published the only independent global university rankings measuring the standard of education and the prestige of faculty and quality of their research without relying on surveys, self-reporting and university data submissions. It is now the world’s largest ranker of international universities.

In a letter to Adelphi University, CWUR President Nadim Mahassen congratulated Adelphi, calling the placement “an outstanding achievement.”
